National Duel in the Desert


The Duel in the Desert is a personal financial case study competition that will take place on March 6-9, 2008. Eight teams of 4 students who have won regional competitions will come to Tucson to compete in this event. The eight regional teams who hosted the qualifying competition from October 2007-January 2008 will join them. The event will open with a dinner, keynote speaker, and the presentation of the case study.

Duel in the Desert

For the next 36 hours the teams will analyze the case and prepare a verbal, written, and Power Point presentation for a panel of judges who will determine the winner. Nineteen thousand dollars in prize money will be awarded. The event will end on Sunday with a seminar on how to start a "Credit-Wise" team at your school. Food and lodging for the competitors is covered. Take Charge America, Inc., a debt management company in Phoenix, Arizona has generously provided the funds and prize money for this event.

The "Duel in the Desert" took place on March 1-4, 2007. Twelve teams of 4 students who won regional competitions came to Tucson to compete in this event. The twelve regional teams who hosted the qualifying competition from October 2006 - January 2007 joined them. The event opened with a dinner, keynote speaker Glinda Bridgforth, from Oprah's Debt Diet. Over $17,000 in prize money was awarded. The event ended on Sunday with a seminar on how to start a "Credit-Wise" team at your school. The winners from 2007 are listed below:
