What Can I Talk About in the Money Lab?

Money Lab conversations can start wherever you are.
You might stop by to talk about:

  • Building or adjusting a spending plan
  • Saving for something important to you
  • Managing bills and everyday expenses
  • Credit cards, credit, or debt
  • Financial decisions related to school
  • Planning for an upcoming expense or transition
  • Setting a financial goal
  • Exploring your options when money feels tight
  • Organizing your finances
  • Making sense of a financial question or decision
  • Figuring out what your next step might be

And you do not need to have a specific problem to meet with a coach. Sometimes it is helpful just to have someone to talk through your thoughts with.

What Happens When I Drop In?

When you arrive, you will be connected with a trained Financial Coaching Cats peer financial coach.
Your coach will not tell you what you should do or make financial decisions for you. Instead, they can help you:

  • Sort through what is happening
  • Identify what matters most to you
  • Explore possibilities and resources
  • Think through tradeoffs
  • Set goals or identify realistic next steps

Financial coaching is a conversation designed to help you make decisions that fit your life, priorities, and circumstances.

Do I Need to Bring Anything?

No. You are welcome to simply show up with a question or topic you would like to explore. If you have information that would be useful for the conversation (such as a budget, bill, financial aid information, list of expenses, or other financial documents) you may choose to bring it, but it is not required.

Drop-In Coaching or Scheduled Appointment?

The Money Lab is a great option when you want to talk with a coach without making an appointment ahead of time. If you would rather reserve a specific time, want a longer conversation, or cannot attend during Money Lab hours, you can also schedule a one-on-one financial coaching appointment.

About Financial Coaching Cats

Financial Coaching Cats is a no-cost peer financial coaching program from the Take Charge America Institute at the University of Arizona. Our trained student coaches work one-on-one with fellow students to help them explore financial questions, goals, decisions, and next steps in a supportive, judgment-free environment. Financial coaching is not about having all the answers, and it is not about being told what to do with your money. It is about having a space to talk it through, explore your options, and make financial decisions that make sense for you.
