TCAI Research Symposium, March 26-28, 2009
“Improving the Effectiveness of Financial Education in the Classroom.”
This event was long on discussion and short on formal presentations. The agenda provided structure to the discussion and participants were encouraged to think about these items (especially our “assessment” under item #7) prior to their arrival. Participants were prepared to discuss, disagree, debate. Also, several participants with particular expertise were asked to think carefully about specific issues and come prepared to take a few minutes to give us their thoughts. We wanted the benefit of their experience. Also included below is a roster of attendees and a copy of a report from a research symposium on financial education hosted in October 2008 by the U.S. Treasury.
- The report is an excellent summary of the state of research in four key areas. This material also helped to frame our discussion, especially the sections on “Consumer Economic Socialization” and “Financial Education and Program Evaluation.”
